Fresh Draft
Opportunity to hear the play on its feet
A large barrier to emerging artists’ development of a play is the echo chamber we often find ourselves in as we write. Having access to professional actors who key into the inter-relationships of your characters is usually something that only happens if you win a reading or if you are established enough to be offered a reading at a theater that supports your work.
The Fresh Draft Series is a program that looks to erase those barriers by having an easily accessible pathway for our community artists to hear their play by professional actors. Normally, a playwright could spend years developing an artists collective of actors, directors, and artistic staff from different theaters to be able to pull together, not only a reading, but trusted feedback on the work.
In our hopes to expedite the development of plays, we offer a program that takes all of that labor off of the playwright so they can focus on their specific process for the development of their play. Playwrights looking to hear a first draft of a play can submit their play directly to our Literary Manager. Our Literary Manager assembles actors, organizes a public reading, and also facilitates a guided feedback session after the reading.
